This article reports that Phnom Penh municipal governor Khuong Sreng has issued rules on solid waste disposal, warning of legal action if not followed. The rules specify separating waste into wet and dry categories, which will be collected separately, and dangerous waste must be stored separately. All state and private organizations in the city will maintain their own rubbish bins. Burning waste or placing it in canals or on the street is strictly forbidden. Ministry of Environment spokesman Neth Pheaktra welcomed the move as a positive step forward, given the country's severe waste management issues.
