The Ocean Cleanup partnered with DNV GL to develop a chain of custody standard for plastic reclaimed from oceans or rivers. The standard is available to any organization for application and certification. Companies can choose to certify the entire value chain or specific parts only. Checks are done with a mix of traditional audit techniques (physical audit and visual inspection, verification of mass balance) and digital audit techniques (verify locations and movements, GPS, verify logistic route, access to CCTV and remote cameras).
