This Issue Brief focuses in on the issue of supporting women in the informal economy. While women are engaged in the informal economy at a lower percentage than men, women are more often in vulnerable categories of work (e.g. domestic workers). The brief notes that the key areas for empowering women are access to decent incomes, representation and collective action, support for care work, education skills and development training, access to social protection, and access to property and financial assets.
