This white paper lays out the work plan and goals of the Plastic Pollution Emissions Working Group. The group has developed a mechanistic framework and prototype model to help quantify the flow of plastics into the environment and evaluate the effectiveness of a range of reduction and mitigation strategies (at least 18 interventions) at different geographic scales to reduce the amount of litter entering our oceans. The intent of this work is to help support decision-making and prioritization of strategies to combat plastic waste.
