This article discusses the South Korean government's plans to reduce plastic waste by 50% and increase recycling rates to 70% by 2030. The government aims to intervene in the entire life cycle of products and reduce the production of unrecyclable items. The government will also establish a joint task force to communicate and receive input from the public. The ministry plans to ban products containing harmful components such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and reduce the use of disposable cups and plastic bags. The plan comes after China's ban on the import of 24 types of recyclables destabilized South Korea's recycling market.
