This report presents an overview of the knowledge status relating to the discharge of macroplastics from the fishing and aquaculture industries, as well as an assessment of the preventive measures to combat the discharge of marine litter from these industries. The study covers the sea regions OSPAR I (Greenland Sea, Norwegian Sea, Barents Sea, White Sea) and OSPAR II (North Sea, Skagerrak, Kattegat, the English Channel) in Northern Europe and the Arctic. The report is based on comprehensive knowledge gathering in the form of systematic reviews of scientific literature and relevant reports, as well as systematic mapping of relevant projects and initiatives that have a preventive effect on litter from fishing and aquaculture.
