The study focused on municipal waste, particularly in capital cities and regions with high plastic waste generation, to identify areas with potential to scale up plastic waste collection and recycling. The selected wasteshed areas include established and emerging plastic recycling supply chains. The study assessed material flows of PET, LDPE, HDPE, and PP, which make up around 85% of plastic packaging and food-service plastic. Rigid plastics dominate the post-consumer recycling industry, while flexible packaging requires further interventions to enter recycling cycles. Relevant infrastructure and key players outside city boundaries were also included in the assessment.
