The Recycled Material Standard (RMS) is in early development and is intended to serve as a voluntary, market-based tool for value chain participants around recycled content. RMS will include requirements that the material is audited independently by third-party certification bodies. There are numerous standards that have been published related to recycled content, however, most standards are developed for specific business segments, e.g. green building, textiles. RMS is focused on materials commonly used in consumer packaging and encompasses three different types of claims under two independent tracking systems (chain-of-custody and certificate-based trading).
