This article discusses the ongoing issue of solid waste management in the Philippines, which is largely attributed to the mismanagement of waste segregation at the local level. Despite the existence of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (RA 9003), which mandates waste segregation at the barangay level, some local government units (LGUs) have failed to strictly enforce the law. To address this issue, the article suggests that LGUs must adhere to their solid waste management plans, allocate adequate budgets for implementation, and ensure proper waste segregation in their respective areas.
