This study evaluates the environmental performance and discounted costs of the incineration and landfilling of municipal solid waste using a life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology. Findings, based on data from the City of Toronto, include that incineration, while more costly financially, has a lower environmental impact than landfill due to the displacement of power plant emissions.
